Common questions

Why do I have to sign in to manifest?

Visiting, lighting fog, and keeping reality cards on the device all work without an account. Manifestation is server work: the photo uploads, waits in a queue, and the result is written back onto your card, and that needs an account to write back to. Apple or Google sign-in is enough; we never ask you to invent a password.

The card is still in the fog. How long does it take?

Manifestation is asynchronous: vision, lore, and image queue as separate steps, usually back within minutes and slower when the queue is busy. It never blocks a visit. If it fails, the reality face is not rewritten and the ink is returned; after three failed retries on the same photo it stops retrying and hands the ink back. If a landmark photo's GPS is not accurate enough, you are told before any ink is spent, so none is wasted. If a card is still in the fog after a day, send us your traveler code.

What is daily ink, and how much do I get?

Ink is how many manifestations you can ask for. It refills daily and caps at 3. Seven hours of healthy sleep last night adds one more that day. The day turns over in your own time zone, not UTC; when the app sends no time zone, Taipei is used. Ink is not for sale and cannot be sped up by paying. Rarity comes from world rules, not from spending.

Why was my name rejected?

Names are checked against reserved and sensitive word lists so nobody can pose as the operator or use something unsuitable. Another spelling usually passes. The traveler code is yours to set and change; the copy button sits beside it. Apple or Google sign-in fills email and does not change the code.

How do I delete my account and data?

Open the traveler page in the app while signed in and delete the account there. Cloud visits, cards, and personal fields go with it, synced records on the phone (visit cells, sessions, journeys, trips, daily segments) are cleared too, and none of it can be restored. Field photos already uploaded are deleted too, and the Sign in with Apple authorization is revoked; section 3 of the Privacy Policy says so. MythFog Pass does not cancel itself, so cancel it in the App Store. Photos and cards on the phone stay, marked local only (kept on this phone), and are never uploaded or manifested again. You do not need to write to us or wait for a reply. Back up anything you want to keep before you delete.

What happens to the photos I take?

When you are signed in and the capture location is valid, field photos upload to our private storage and are used for manifestation, safety filtering, and debugging. Face detection only asks whether a face is present; it does not identify anyone, and photos with a face are neither kept in the chronicle nor uploaded. A photo imported from your library with no EXIF location, or a location but no capture time, stays on the phone and is never uploaded. Using photos to improve recognition and generation is optional: the sign-in screen's Photos to improve AI box is unchecked by default, you can sign in without it with nothing working differently, and the traveler page can turn it on or off at any time. Sections 2 and 4 of the Privacy Policy have the detail.

What do you do with Health data?

With Apple Health connected we read steps, walking distance, and sleep hours to draw the activity page and to grant the +1 manifestation for seven hours of sleep. Raw samples are never uploaded, and we do not show your bedtime or wake time. Health distance is never added to visit distance.

Is Guardian a rescue service?

No. After sign-in you add one guardian: give a label and an email to send the invite, and missed-check-in mail starts only after they accept the link in that mail; you may arm before they accept. Each guardian has Send the invite again and Remove and invite someone else; the same email cannot be added twice. After Send the invite again, that same row says it was sent. After a send, wait a minute before sending again. Visit Guardian is a row on the traveler page and a screen of its own one level down. Tap I'm safe when you are not moving; walking about 400 m on a visit counts as a check-in. Email goes out after 24 hours with neither, in your language plus English. The switch labelled I have read the limits spells the limits out beside it, and turning it on counts as having read them; arming has a separate checkbox for attaching your last location to that mail, and leaving it off sends no coordinates. The server checks for missed check-ins every 10 minutes, so the app does not have to be open, and a failed send is retried up to three times. Tapping I'm safe cancels any notice not sent yet. We do not call police or an ambulance.

Does the flight journal light fog?

No. It lives in the Codex toolbar, beside the trip journal. Upcoming flights are cards, nearest first, with the airline name, times, terminal when known, and flight hours beside the distance. The last list opens from this phone. Search by flight number and date on the same screen. Forward itinerary mail from the envelope; signing in makes a random @inbound.mythfog.com address, and swapping it for a new one retires the old address. Distance counts on the departure date. It is never added to visit distance. Taken countries show on the gazetteer Land tab and do not light fog. Lookups and confirmed flights stay in a shared catalog.

Where do I find friends?

On the Friends row of the traveler page, not only in the gazetteer. The plus button searches by full traveler code, copies the invite link, and shows a QR. Never the system ID. An existing friend can be removed, and after that neither side sees the other's feed. An invite link or QR does not auto-add a friend; on an iPhone, tapping mythfog://invite/… or https://mythfog.com/invite/… opens the app. During a visit you may share live location with one friend: coordinates upload every 15 seconds only after you tap start sharing, they see it only after tapping your name, uploading stops when the visit ends or you stop it, and the server keeps only the latest point.

What does the “Data needs repair” banner mean?

The database on your phone would not open this time, so visits and cards cannot be saved right now. Before, the app quietly fell back to a scratch database and looked normal while nothing was kept, so it now says so plainly. Quit the app completely and open it again. If the banner is still there, send us your traveler code and app version, and please do not delete the app first — that would take unsynced records with it.

Why iPhone only?

Today it is iOS 17 or later, Taiwan first. Getting location, camera, and Health right on one platform beats doing two of them badly. We have no Android timeline. If that changes it will appear on the roadmap; we will not promise it early.
